Best Sellers Safaris
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania experiences two primary seasons that significantly impact wildlife movements and safari experiences. These seasons are known as the dry season and the wet season.
- Dry Season: The dry season in the Serengeti typically occurs from Mid-June to October. It is characterized by clear skies, warm temperatures, and minimal rainfall. This is considered the peak tourist season, as the weather is generally pleasant, and wildlife viewing is exceptional. During the dry season, vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot animals as they gather around water sources such as rivers and watering holes. The Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores migrate in search of fresh grazing, is a highlight of this season.
- Wet Season: The wet season in the Serengeti runs from December to Mid-March. It is characterized by sporadic rainfall, with the heaviest showers occurring from March to May. The wet season brings rejuvenation to the plains, resulting in lush green landscapes and an abundance of vegetation. The wet season is a time of birth and renewal, as many animals give birth to their young during this period. While wildlife sightings can still be rewarding during the wet season, some areas may become inaccessible due to muddy or flooded conditions. However, this season offers unique opportunities for birdwatching, as migratory bird species flock to the Serengeti.
