Explore Tanzania’s wildlife on a private one-day safari from Moshi or Arusha. Ngorongoro Crater involves a particularly long journey and is better enjoyed with an overnight stay; a day trip can be discussed on request.
On this page
Tarangire National Park is defined by the Tarangire River, which threads through the park and draws wildlife in the dry season. Ancient baobab trees rise over acacia woodland and open grassland, and the river and its swamps become a magnet for seasonal wildlife concentrations. Elephant herds are a hallmark of the park, and a picnic lunch is taken in the bush between morning and afternoon game viewing.

Departure & travel considerations
Tarangire is reachable as a day trip from both Moshi and Arusha, with Arusha the closer starting point. Actual driving time depends on your pickup location, road conditions and park arrangements, so we confirm timings in your quotation rather than promising a fixed schedule.

Lake Manyara National Park lies beneath the Rift Valley escarpment, where a shallow alkaline lake meets groundwater forest, acacia woodland and open shoreline. These varied habitats support a rich mix of wildlife and birdlife. The nearby town of Mto wa Mbu is a common lunch and refreshment stop, and elephants are frequently seen along the forest edge. Tree-climbing lions are a possible sighting here, though not a guaranteed experience, and flamingo numbers vary with conditions.
Rift Valley escarpment and lake setting
Varied habitats: groundwater forest, woodland and shoreline
Elephants and abundant birdlife
Tree-climbing lions as a possible sighting
Picnic lunch and game viewing
Depart Moshi or Arusha and travel to Lake Manyara.
Game drive through the groundwater forest and along the lake shore.
Picnic lunch, with a possible stop near Mto wa Mbu.
Further game viewing before the return drive.
Manyara is well suited to a day trip from Arusha and is also feasible from Moshi, with a longer drive. Timings depend on your pickup location and road conditions; flamingo numbers and wildlife sightings vary seasonally, so we set expectations in your quotation rather than guaranteeing a fixed return time.
Mkomazi National Park sits near the Pare and Usambara mountains, a landscape of dry woodland and open plains that supports giraffe, zebra, antelope and rewarding birdwatching. The park also holds conservation interest for its black rhino and African wild dog programmes. We do not promise rhino or wild-dog sightings on a standard game drive; dedicated conservation visits require advance confirmation of access, availability and any extra charges.
Dry woodland and plains near the Pare and Usambara mountains
Giraffe, zebra, antelope and birdwatching
Conservation interest in black rhinos and African wild dogs
Sample day (from Moshi — approximate example)
Depart Moshi.
Arrive at the park.
Game viewing with picnic lunch.
Leave the park.
Approximate return to Moshi.
This schedule is an approximate example from Moshi and does not imply the same timings apply from Arusha.
Mkomazi is most practical as a day trip from Moshi. Driving time depends on your pickup location, road conditions and park arrangements, and any separately arranged conservation visit adds time and cost that we confirm in advance.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a vast volcanic caldera whose floor holds grassland, wetland, lake and woodland, supporting one of Africa’s densest concentrations of wildlife. A day trip descends to the crater floor for game viewing and a picnic lunch, with the chance of black-rhino sightings and views across Lake Magadi. This is a very long excursion, especially from Moshi. We recommend an overnight itinerary for a more relaxed experience and more time for wildlife viewing.
Long day trip — overnight recommended. This is a very long excursion, especially from Moshi. We recommend an overnight itinerary for a more relaxed experience and more time for wildlife viewing. An enquiry option is available below for guests who still wish to discuss a day trip.
Caldera landscape and crater-floor game viewing
Dense wildlife concentrations on the crater floor
Lake Magadi and the possibility of black-rhino sightings
Picnic lunch on the crater floor
Depart Moshi or Arusha for the long drive to Ngorongoro.
Descend to the crater floor for game viewing.
Picnic lunch on the crater floor.
Continue game viewing, then ascend and begin the return drive.
Ngorongoro involves a particularly long journey from both Moshi and Arusha, and even longer from Moshi. Because of the driving time, most guests prefer an overnight itinerary; a day trip is possible but demanding. We confirm exact timings and whether a day trip is realistic from your starting point in your quotation.
A varied day safari combining forest, open grassland and the Momela Lakes, with views towards Mount Meru when conditions are clear. Enjoy wildlife viewing and a picnic lunch before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
A safari around Mount Meru, not a summit trek. This day explores Arusha National Park on the lower slopes of Mount Meru — it is a wildlife safari, not a Mount Meru climb. The Ngurdoto Crater visit is to rim viewpoints rather than a descent into the crater, which is closed to vehicles.
Momela Lakes and birdwatching
Ngurdoto Crater viewpoints
Forest and grassland wildlife
