Provider list we hold

1 · Mandatory inbound insurance

Required to enter,

even with other cover.

Eligible foreign visitors must obtain the applicable mandatory inbound insurance, even if they already have international travel insurance. Purchase through the official provider according to your first point of entry.

Mainland Tanzania first

National Insurance Corporation (NIC). Purchase before arrival through the official provider.

Apply via NIC inbound portal

Zanzibar first

Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). Purchase before arrival through the official provider.

Apply via ZIC inbound portal

Under the official clarification, travellers do

not

need to buy two mandatory inbound policies simply because the same insured journey includes both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Keep your valid insurance certificate and QR code available throughout your journey.

Qualifying EAC and SADC travellers are exempt from the Mainland requirement; this does

automatically exempt them from Zanzibar's requirements. Check the official provider's current eligibility rules before travelling.

2 · Comprehensive international travel insurance

Arrange broad cover

from home.

We strongly recommend arranging comprehensive travel insurance from your home country before departure, in addition to any mandatory inbound cover.

Choose appropriate benefits for:

Review exclusions, benefit limits and excesses carefully. Mandatory inbound insurance should not be assumed to cover every aspect of your trip.

3 · Cover for Kilimanjaro, Mawenzi & MTB

Confirm your activities

and altitude.

Mountain trips need specific cover. Ordinary trekking insurance may not include high-altitude trekking, technical climbing or mountain biking, so confirm your activities in writing before you travel.

Kilimanjaro

For Kilimanjaro, obtain written confirmation that your policy covers your planned activities up to at least

6,000 metres

, including emergency evacuation and helicopter evacuation where medically necessary and operationally possible.

Uhuru Peak is 5,895 metres. An insurance altitude limit of at least 6,000 metres accommodates the planned summit altitude; it does

guarantee helicopter collection from the summit.

Mawenzi & mountain biking

Technical Mawenzi climbing and high-altitude mountain biking must be

explicitly covered

where included in your itinerary. Ordinary trekking cover may not include these activities.

Helicopter evacuation depends on weather, terrain, suitable collection locations, aircraft availability and the rescue provider's assessment. Ground evacuation or descent to an accessible collection point may be necessary.

4 · AMREF Flying Doctors — Maisha Evacuation Plans

An evacuation plan that

complements your cover.

AMREF Flying Doctors offers Maisha medical evacuation plans, including the short-term Tourist Silver Plus option with geographical coverage for Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. Maisha provides emergency medical evacuation services subject to the selected plan, membership eligibility and AMREF Flying Doctors’ terms and conditions. AMREF determines whether evacuation is medically necessary, the collection point, transport method and destination.

View current plans and terms

Kilimanjaro helicopter evacuation

Helicopter evacuation from Kilimanjaro is subject to AMREF’s applicable terms and conditions, medical approval, aircraft availability and operational feasibility. Coverage terms and service arrangements can change; confirm the current provisions before travelling.

The supplied terms specify evacuation from designated areas on Kilimanjaro to Moshi. AMREF’s medical team then assesses whether further evacuation to Nairobi is needed.

Helicopter collection is not guaranteed from the summit or every camp. Weather, landing-site safety and aircraft availability may delay or prevent a flight. Ground evacuation or descent to an accessible collection point may be necessary.

If altitude illness develops, follow your guide’s emergency descent instructions rather than waiting for a helicopter.

Safari evacuation

During a safari, AMREF can arrange medically approved evacuation from a suitable serviceable airstrip. Depending on the emergency location and operational conditions, possible collection points may include Seronera or Lake Manyara airstrip.

AMREF confirms the appropriate collection point. Transfer from the incident location to an airstrip may be necessary; neither airstrip is a guaranteed pickup location.

Under the supplied terms, standard Maisha air evacuations are primarily to Nairobi. In-country evacuation within Tanzania is included under Maisha Platinum, while Silver and Gold may incur an additional fee. Confirm the provisions of your exact plan before purchasing.

Important plan conditions

Maisha evacuation cover

complements

comprehensive travel insurance. It is optional (US$50 per client where requested) and is not automatically included in our packages unless explicitly confirmed in your written quotation.

Summary informed by AMREF Terms and Conditions, Version 0425, effective 1 April 2025. The current terms issued for your selected plan govern your cover.

5 · Written confirmation checklist

What your insurer must confirm

in writing.

Before you travel, ask your insurer or broker to confirm each point below in writing — not in a chat message or a comparison-site summary. If an answer is unclear, treat it as not covered until you have it in writing.

6 · The provider list we hold

A reference list,

not an endorsement.

Exuberant holds a list of insurance and assistance providers that was supplied to us for reference and is attributed to KiliMedAir. We have not verified it, and we do not present it as a set of approved or recommended insurers.

What the list is

An owner-supplied reference document attributed to KiliMedAir, kept so we can point travellers towards organisations to research for themselves. It is pending current confirmation and may have changed since it was compiled.

What the list is not

It is not proof that every listed policy suits Kilimanjaro trekking, not an approval or recommendation by Exuberant, and not insurance advice. A name on a supplier list tells you nothing about that provider's altitude limits, exclusions or willingness to authorise a helicopter.

The entries are not all insurers

Some entries are assistance organisations, brokers or insurance markets rather than direct insurers. If an organisation arranges or coordinates cover rather than carrying the risk itself, the wording that governs your claim comes from the insurer behind it — ask for that insurer by name.

Why we do not publish its contact details

Telephone numbers and addresses in an unverified list can be out of date, and publishing a stale emergency number is worse than publishing none. Use the provider's own current website, or the 24-hour assistance number printed on your own policy, and check it before you fly.

KiliMedAir

is named in the supplier list as the evacuation provider we would expect to contact in an emergency. Its own website is the place to check current operational information:

. We do not publish its telephone numbers here, and we have not verified its current service area, aircraft, pricing or availability.

A supplier list is also not evidence of a partnership. Exuberant is not an AMREF Flying Doctors partner, and AMREF evacuation membership is not included in our packages unless your written quotation says so. Where a client requests it, membership is arranged at US$50 per client. AMREF membership is separate from comprehensive travel insurance and separate from any helicopter transport bill.

In short

What to arrange

before you travel.

Buy NIC (Mainland first) or ZIC (Zanzibar first) through the official provider. One inbound policy covers a combined Mainland and Zanzibar journey.

Comprehensive international cover

Arrange a policy from home covering cancellation, luggage, medical treatment, evacuation and your planned activities.

Mountain-specific confirmation

For Kilimanjaro, confirm altitude cover to at least 6,000 m. Ensure Mawenzi climbing and mountain biking are explicitly covered where relevant.
