The 4-Day Mount Meru Trek

This is the itinerary we recommend to almost every climber. It follows the same Day 1 and Day 2 as the 3-day trek, then splits the post-summit descent over two days — so the final day is shorter and less rushed than completing the whole descent in a single push.

Day 1

Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

An armed ranger escort begins at Momella Gate (1,500m) through Arusha National Park, with possible wildlife sightings on the way, before a forest climb to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) for the overnight.

Day 2

Miriakamba to Saddle Hut

A steeper morning through the heather zone to Saddle Hut (3,570m), with an optional afternoon acclimatization walk to Little Meru (3,820m) if conditions and the guide’s assessment permit. Overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 3

Summit Ascent & Descent to Miriakamba

A departure shortly after midnight for the summit push to Socialist Peak (4,562.13m), catching sunrise over Kilimanjaro, before descending back to Saddle Hut and continuing down to Miriakamba Hut for the overnight.

Day 4

Descent to Momella Gate

A final descent through the forest back to Momella Gate, with certificates issued and transfer back to your lodge.
