The visit
Community connections were at the heart of this visit to A Light in Africa and Ewang’ani Maasai Village.
Through Mindy Abbott McQuivey’s local recreation centre in the United States, contributors donated over 50 football jerseys and six footballs for the children at the two destinations. Additional contributions included coloured pencils, colouring books and other recreational and reading materials.
Exuberant Kilimanjaro Safaris helped connect the contributions with the local communities. The visit also included time playing football together.
We thank Mindy Abbott McQuivey, the recreation centre, Caroline Sturm for making the connection, everyone who contributed, and the teams who welcomed us.
If you would like to support a local initiative during your Tanzania trip, mention it in your enquiry. We can help you contact the organisation to confirm its current priorities before you buy or bring supplies.

About this story
The jerseys, footballs and supplies were contributed through Mindy Abbott McQuivey’s recreation centre. Those quantities cover A Light in Africa and Ewang’ani Maasai Village together. The portrait names Abraham Meliari Moshi (Abe) only; the young participant is not identified, and personal circumstances are not described. A visit to a children’s home is not a bookable excursion. The organisation link is the charity’s own website, not a donation page.
